CELEBRATING THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF V.E. DAY...

...in Meg-A-Style!

We had some different things at the Community Fridge today - the top left milk shakes made me smile - and in fact, I did bring one home with me, so will enjoy that later.  We had 160 people in today and there was a lovely atmosphere - the hall was still looking good from Tuesday, when the ladies from Lunch Club had decorated with bunting and flags.

At 11.58, the doors were closed and those inside the building were invited to take part in the 2 minute silence at midday, which was being done nationwide today to celebrate and remember the 80th Anniversary of V.E. Day.  Those inside the building were very respectful and the silence closed with a prayer by Hilary, one of the volunteers, and then a prayer from Meg.

For those not familiar with this particular date and the remembrance behind it:

“8 May 1945 – VE Day (Victory in Europe Day) – was one that remained in the memory of all those who witnessed it. It meant an end to nearly six years of a war that had cost the lives of millions; had destroyed homes, families, and cities; and had brought huge suffering and privations to the populations of entire countries.”

And of course, there was Meg - well, what can we say about our dear Meg - she is amazing and always dresses up for the occasion - I wish I had been there when Liverpool won the Premier League a couple of weeks ago, as she told me she had dressed up on the Monday following that important win.  So here she is, taking pride of place in the middle of my collage.  I’m sure all the customers enjoyed seeing her and as I said, the 80th Anniversary was celebrated in Meg-a-Style!

We had lots of bread, baked goods, fresh vegetables including courgettes, aubergines, avocados, cauliflower, leeks, carrots, tomatoes, lettuce etc and we still have a few bags of potatoes left too, so there was something for everyone.  You will also see bundles of baby nappies - and today there were quite a few plants, but not as many flowers as we sometimes but all in all a good day but quite tiring.

I apologise for not commenting last night because I was very tired after a busy day and evening, but will try and get round to your journals as soon as I can.  M xx
