Holiday Reflections
After our multi-destination Orkney holiday last year I reflected that moving around isn’t as relaxing as being in one place. It’s good to get settled in. However here we are again having had a peripatetic holiday. Much easier with the car I must say – Orkney was a public transport holiday.
Destinations this time: Morar, Skye, North Uist, Lewis, Garve and Strathcarron. All wonderful in their own ways. The weather has been terrific. The wind on Uist was a challenge at times but what can you expect. We have been so fortunate not to have had to contend with rain or low temperatures.
If I’d not been basing the holiday round my tin tabernacle project I could have had any number of others. Landscapes, seascapes, mountain ranges, trees, wildflowers and birds. Oh the birds have been so very good to see. The light has been magical on the water both coastal and inland.
It’s a while since I’ve been on the west coast. Because of my obsession with/love of the Northern Isles the west doesn’t get from me the attention it maybe should. From the gentle greenery of the Sleat Peninsula on Skye to the white sands of Uist, Harris and Lewis to the majesty of Torridon we’ve seen such a variety. We are lucky to live in such a beautiful country. And lucky to be able to explore it.
This morning we're heading home. And a perfect Highland morning it is too. Clear blue sky, warm sunshine, no wind. Birds, flowers, trees - everything in its pomp.
