Taking stock(s)
Gavin and I were both worried about the results of the PET scan, so we did not sleep that well last night. This morning the surgeon sent a message to say that the PET scan is clear and does not show that the cancer has spread, so that was HUGE relief. We felt like we could breathe again.
I took Gavin back to the nurse to have his dressing changed. I will have to change the dressing myself over the weekend and she will check him again on Monday.
Gavin is getting stronger, he is able to eat more each day - he eats small amounts about five times a day. Today was the first day I had at home to get some things done. First we had to get the private insurance authorisation for his appointment with the oncologist - this is the third one I have had to get, as he had two separate ones for each hospital admission. BUPA, our insurers have been brilliant so far. Gavin is going the private route for any possible cancer treatment as the NHS only offer the standard treatments, and Gavin will require something out of the ordinary that the NHS won't offer - he won't be getting chemotherapy as it doesn't work on his cancer. That is assuming he will be getting some form of treatment. His appointment with the oncologist was confirmed today so that is all good.
There is so much personal admin to sort - Gavin and I have always had separate bank accounts and he wants to change his accounts to joint accounts, so that involved a few phone calls with the bank - this is usually done in person in a branch which he can't do right now, so we now have a telephone appointment with both of us being present for two weeks time. We still have to cancel our San Diego trip but that is another whole series of phone calls, so that is next week's problem. And so much more admin and finances to sort through...its all a bit overwhelming.
A colleague from Gavin's office who lives nearby came to visit him this afternoon and brought him some books to read and a ginormous bouquet of flowers. Gavin is only starting to concentrate on reading again now, so he will enjoy those books.
These beautiful stocks were a gift from Inca's mum. She sent Tommy money and instructed him to buy me a bunch of stocks and a bunch of hyacinths, and the house smells beautiful from them. They are such lovely flowers.
We are looking forward to a calm and relaxing weekend at home. Tommy has gone to Inca's house as it is her birthday this weekend, but Luke is coming tomorrow.
