An early walk on the moor brought the first Red Admiral of the year. I did initially think from looking at the underside that it was a Painted Lady but I've been corrected on my wishful thinking.

I found it just a few hundred yards from home, but in a butterfly hot spot that I'd overlooked before. There is a swathe of these these purple flowers coming into bloom and they had drawn in tens of Peacocks and a good quantity of Small Tortoiseshell, Large, Small and Green-veined White and the odd Comma, Gatekeeper, Meadow Brown, Small Skipper, Small Heath and Ringlet. If anyone recognises the flower I'd be pleased to receive an id.

This afternoon will see 5yo, 8yo and myself heading to a Wild Wednesday of wildlife themed craft activities at the local countryside centre. We're sure to come home with some wonderful creations.
