Morning on the beach
We had a lie in, I read my book a bit before getting up for a cup of tea and breakfast. Lovely sunny start to the day but there was no rush.
The tide was high when we got up but was going out so we headed down to enjoy an hour + strolling on the cliff tops and then onto the beach itself.
Always at this time of year the grassy cliffs have clumps of primroses growing in the nooks and crannies, good to see them still flourishing. When we walked back the ‘camper van city’ at the bottom of the beach road turn around was down to just two camper vans and a car.
Back for coffee and then after lunch we took ourselves off around the ‘island’ peninsula to see what has been happening over the last year. The company that bought Tanera Island, the biggest of the Summer Isles some years ago has bought up other properties to ‘restore’. The Manse in Achiltibuie is to be a pub and is looking good. They have had an open day but there were no signs of it being open. They are still working on Achnahaird Farm, which we can see from the house, that may also become a pub and they have started demolishing the Summer Isles Hotel which is to be authentically restored to its previous glory. Hope they all work out as they are providing work for locals. Surprisingly all the Tanera sites seemed to have people working today which is a bit unusual on a Sunday.
More unusual is the sight we found at Badentarbet - extra.
Can you tell what it is?*
We checked out Nanty the family boat at Old Dornie harbour, last year it had been found upside down but all was well so we went to the Am Furam bar at Antandu for a drink. Always like to sit out there over looking Isle Ristol in the Summer Isles. The family always take the boat there as there is a fabulous remote beach and it’s a conservation area. Took a wander down to the caravan/camp site run by the pub/restaurant, it’s in a lovely location. Had a look in the shop, nothing we wanted but handy to know as it’s open 12 hours a day every day!
In the garden here there are bluebells and wild violets, there are odd pink ones amongst the blue - last extra. We’ve also heard the cuckoo which we’re sure is in the trees that form a shelter belt around the house. Chris day Merlin has told June there are Redstarts too. You may spot the wee hoose nestled in the trees from the main beach picture in the blip collage (thumbnail)
A pleasant and leisurely start to our week here.
* It’s a portable sauna which is for hire!
