Roseburn Park

Background and history

Out first thing on the bike up the Mound (there was a stuck traffic light) then to the Meadows and the canal. A fine sunny cycling morning. Passed the new swan nest, with both swans in attendance, at Fountainbridge. Down the steps to the Water of Leith, passing the allotments then through Saughton Park to Murrayfield. The coffee shop in the former toilet block was just opening. Back through the West End. Shorts for the first time this year, and took off the jacket part way round.

Afternoon  walk by the railway paths walk looping through Victoria Park.

Evening concert by the Scottish Sinfonia - about 100 performers, and a full house at St Cuthberts. Glorious 'Lark Ascending'  ; a piece by Finzi which isn't often performed - great playing, with an unhelpful tenor part; Enigma Variations and the Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, with which the horns, in particular, had great fun. Met R & A there; R had suggested I go, and I got a ticket at the door. Like a lot of the audience we knew at least one of the players.
Still some light when we came out.
