First kayak of the season

Sunday
Finally we had a lovely warm, dry, sunny day. Unfortunately, it’s a one off. - rain is back in the forecast for the next three days! So we made the most of it. After a good morning at church, we returned home, and while I was putting together a picnic for us, R was putting the kayak racks on the car, then we loaded the kayaks on, and drove out to Stonelick Lake for the afternoon. We enjoyed our picnic first, then went out on the lake. There were quite a number of other kayakers out there - more than we’ve seen on any of our previous visits. As usual, we saw lots of great blue herons and turtles, as well as swallows swooping over the water, and then on our way back, a bald eagle soaring overhead. We were both doing quite well going out, but I think we were both flagging toward the end - we need to build our arm muscles up again after the winter! Also, I’ve decided I need to buy some kayaking gloves or use my cycling gloves, as my hands were getting a bit sore towards the end. Anyway, it was a great opening paddle for the season!
Roger kindly fixed us dinner in honour of American Mothers Day, and both daughters called in the evening. Philip, if running true to form, will probably call tomorrow, when he belatedly realizes it was Mothers Day!
