Dilemma

The theory behind my trips to the Faroes is that I work on the poor days, and play outdoors on the good days. However, it looks as if the beautiful sunny weather that began on Sunday will be around for another week!

Today I compromised by working in the morning, and then going out for a walk at lunchtime. I went up Klakkur (413m), which is almost directly above my apartment. The direct route would be unpleasantly steep and crosses farmland, so is not a public right of way. Hence I had a level walk above the town, before the relatively gentle climb up the drivable track and then footpath to the summit. This is a wonderful viewpoint that I've visited on several occasions. Pictured, it looks out on the islands of Kalsoy (left) and Kunoy (right), which soars straight out of the sea to the summit of Suður á Nakki. Although the ridge drops steeply from the summit of Klakkur, I explored the first 30m of the descent, and the rest appears feasible, so coming up that way looks fun if I can get to the bottom from the town.

On my way down, I took a photo looking south to Hálgafelli (which I climbed last year) and Háfjall (which looks out of my league!) and found a good point from which to take a wide-angle shot of almost all of Klaksvík (see extras). Back in the apartment, I showered, ate, had a nap and got back to work.
