Common Gallinule, in the Park

Common Gallinules are medium-sized marsh birds with long legs and toes. Adults sport a bright red beak that extends up the forehead, it's quite unusual. They are also called Moorhens. When we first went to Bennett Park and heard their call we weren't able to see them. They were hiding in the rushes. So we started calling them a "monkey bird" because of the funny sound they make.

Mom is holding steady and my sister and I are planning for her discharge (when she is ready) to a new rehabilitation facility with skilled nursing and Memory Care. Because of her Alzheimer's she will need that type of care in order to do rehab for her hip. One step at a time, literally.
