COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS AT SWINDON COMMUNITY FRIDGE
You all know that Thursday is Swindon Community Fridge day at Gorse Hill Baptist Church and today was no exception, but it was a special day today when we received a Community Diamond Award from Asda Haydon.
I had looked at the theme for Abstract Thursday and had it in my head that it was “Curvy” so when I saw Jane, the Community Champion from Asda Haydon, Debs, on the left, and then Heather, our Head Honcho on the right, I thought, “Job done” because they are all “Curvy ladies”! I just hope they don’t mind me calling them that!
Then I thought, well, I could make the rest of the shots “Curvy” too, so I did, using the Photoscape X app on my computer. The bottom right shot is Jonny, who is one of our Deacons and also a Trustee of the Charity that runs the Community Fridge at Gorse Hill Baptist Church and Heather. I think that even Jonny looks good as a curvy fella - although he probably won’t be happy reading that but it is in line with the Abstract Thursday theme! I then made all the other shots curvy too, again to fit in with the theme.
Then, having decided I needed to find the details for my tags, I looked again and saw that the actual theme was “Shapely abstract” but it still fits because I think you will agree, all three ladies are shapely.
The Community Diamond Award to Gorse Hill Baptist Church says:
“Presented to Gorse Hill Baptist Church (Community Fridge)
Thank you for everything you do for our local community.
Your dedication and hard work make a huge difference
and we truly appreciate it.
You are a true Community Diamond,
shining bright as we celebrate Asda’s 60th Birthday.”
I did say to Jane as I took the photograph that it looks as if she has a halo - and to be fair, Jane and Asda Haydon have been an amazing support to the Community Fridge so she does deserve a halo!
I must, at this juncture, mention two of our volunteers, Rosa and Louise - they sat for well over two hours de-eyeing many of the potatoes - and yes, we still have LOTS of bags of potatoes left plus many others - they did sterling work, although it wasn’t the best job to be doing.
Mind you, all the volunteers do their bit and all do it willingly - whether it’s welcoming people at the door - and you have all seen our Marvellous Meg in different outfits and glasses over the last few months - being on the table weighing the food and taking details, bagging up other commodities serving coffee and cake in the café every Monday and Thursday, chatting to our lovely customers. There is always a good atmosphere though and we all get on well together. We are also grateful to several of our male customers, who always stay behind after the doors close to wipe down the tables, put away the tables and chairs and help us to put the different produce away. All in all, it is a great community effort.
I personally had a good morning at the Community Fridge and chatted to lots of lovely people in between doing other work, such as sorting things out, selling coffee and cake and generally doing what was needed. Now it’s time for a rest - but I have our meal to cook first. Mr. HCB is hoping that this good weather holds for at least the next two days as he is off to Bristol for two days of cricket - watching that is, not playing, so I have two days to please myself what I do - what bliss! M xx
P.S. I hope you note that I have now been “ON THEME” for four consecutive days - which I understand is called a “Four-Peat”. I do know what a five consecutive day stint is called, but you will have to wait until tomorrow to find out!
