Looping the Loop
Another warm day today - probably the warmest this week. We set off on the bus to Ballyvaughan, some 28 miles away, to walk the 5 mile Wood Loop path. I was rather dubious about doing it, what with my sore hip and a blister on my foot, but it went well. The Loop is a mixture of surfaced lanes, gravel tracks, woodland paths and limestone pavement. Early on we caught sight of the tower of the rather alpine-looking Newtown Castle, a restored 16th century tower house and my Blip today. The scenery was dominated by limestone cliffs - quite spectacular. My extra today is of two ladies who overtook us and disappeared into the distance!
Halfway through the walk we came across the Aillwee Burren Experience, a rather touristy place with a famous cave, a Bird of Prey centre and a farm shop. Having seen one cave this week I ignored that and we visited the farm shop instead. Then we carried on with our walk and I was quite relieved to arrive back in Ballyvaughan where we took the bus back to Doolin. A wonderful walk, but I was glad to get back to the house and sit in the sun with a cuppa!
Last day tomorrow and we'll start the journey homewards.
