A Nice Lunch: Two Slices and a Chef Salad
My mother-in-law's birthday was last week, and so we made plans to visit her and treat her to a nice Italian lunch, delivered to the front door. She's living at Homewood in Martinsburg, and we used to go to nearby Traditions restaurant when we went to see her. Of late, she prefers to skip that, and simply eat at home.
There's a pizza shop called Small Town Pizza in Martinsburg that we sometimes order from. My husband wanted to be sure we had the latest price list, so we stopped briefly on the way past. I ran in and grabbed a menu, quickly checked it out; while we've had their food delivered, I'd never been inside before.
The pizza shop looks like it was once an old diner, all shiny metal on the outside and red and white and black inside. The dining room was pretty but there were people there, and it seemed gauche to walk in and take the photo with them in it. Maybe next time. (And here I am reminded of the three-minute Roadside Diner Challenge of yesteryear.)
We ordered a medium one-topping pizza (pepperoni, of course, with two slices presented here), and a small but surprisingly well appointed chef salad*, which you may also see in this photo. My mother-in-law ordered a small "the works" stromboli. Everything we had was good to very good, and we had plenty left over for later.
For dessert (sorry, not pictured), my mother-in-law whipped out slices of a favorite treat from her fridge. Somebody had ordered her a "caramel pecan turtle" cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory for her birthday. Oh my, was THAT decadent and delicious!
The soundtrack song for this nice lunch from Small Town Pizza in Martinsburg is John Mellencamp's song Small Town.
*Actually, the chef salad was much bigger than it looks. I had to unpack it onto its own plate, and my husband and I each enjoyed a side salad with ranch dressing along with our pizza lunch. The salad included several slices of ham and turkey breast, shredded cheddar cheese, a whole hard-boiled egg (quartered), carrots (peeled first, then sliced!), onions, green pepper, tomato, and lettuce. I enjoyed about HALF of the salad later at home, for supper, with a big bowl of baked potato soup, which was left over from a visit to Texas Roadhouse on Wednesday. Oh boy, leftovers from TWO restaurants, enjoyed together! Oh, nom!
