Tórshavn
Today I worked in the morning, including a call with И and PhD student Y, then a long chat with И as we contemplated the changes in HiGHS over the past couple of months. We are both doing more management, so can't devote so much time to our own development activities.
I then took the bus to Tórshavn, arriving in time to get a bite to eat before meeting a guy from the University of the Faroe Islands I'd got in touch with before leaving Scotland. He showed me around their buildings, and we compared notes on our respective universities. He seemed pleased when I said I'd be happy to talk about HiGHS on a future visit.
I then went up through the rest of the familiar sights of Tórshavn, on my way to the Oy Brewery. It's the only craft brewery in the Islands, and I had to try their Ei-п-ey (see extra) to accompany an excellent plate of fish and chips.
From the brewery I took the last of the five Tórshavn Turf zones in my way to Gundadalur, a football ground used by two of the town's teams that is next to the national stadium, Tórsvøllur. I was there to watch KÍ play HB (Havnar Bóltfelag), and sat in the shade of the KÍ "family" stand. KÍ scored after 20 minutes and, although they controlled the game, they were punished for not getting a second goal when HB equalised in added time at the end of the game. The atmosphere was pleasant, but lacked the intensity of last week. 0nce again the kids played on the pitch at half time, but this time they seemed glad of the sprinklers, to cool down (see extra).
With 90 minutes before the bus back to Klaksvík, I went to one of Tórshavn's two craft beer pubs, looking out at the harbour scene pictured, and drinking a slightly disappointing Oy beer. I emerged to discover that the haar has come in. I'm glad I brought my jacket.
