Gilmore Ponds
Saturday
We enjoyed a warm, sunny and dry today. R was working with the Trustees and a few of the scouts at church this morning, putting down mulch and other outdoor jobs. Meanwhile, I was sitting in the sun in the breakfast room, doing my Duolingo Spanish and some knitting. As soon as R got back, we both went to the fitness center for a swim - 36 lengths for me today - I could have done more, but they close at 1 pm on Saturdays.
We returned home for a coffee and some fruit, then went walking at Gilmore Ponds, near Fairfield, hoping to do some birding. However, problem number one was we forgot to take the binoculars(!) and problem number two was although we heard and saw birds flying quickly by, from the point of view of photography it wasn’t very successful! So rather than birds in my collage, it’s more wildflowers, apart from a couple of distant heron nests. The lower left photo of my collage shows a sort of floating boardwalk through a marsh area, only there was more water than usual, and as you put your foot on it, it would give way slightly, so we both ended up with wet shoes and socks!
Since we were pretty close to Jungle Jim’s, the huge international store I have blipped before, we stopped in to pick up a few things, such as marmalade, ginger preserve, pikelets and a couple of packets of English biscuits/cookies such as chocolate Hobnobs!
