Solitary encounter

I decided to stay up for another night for a bit of my own time with nature. The weather was dramatically different this morning and I thanked my lucky stars that it was so glorious and still yesterday.

I walked up to the ghyll and spent some time in the enclosure with the birds before taking a different route back on the other side. I had forgotten spotting some fell ponies on my first afternoon in this area and so this encounter was a beautiful surprise. There were five of them and I was a bit wary of walking between them, not really knowing much about their behaviour. They all ignored me apart from this one who kept taking a few tentative steps towards me. I imagined big hooves rearing up but kept my cool as she put her nose near me. She just wanted to say hello so we spent a few moments together.

As I went to leave, I saw out of the corner of my eye, she was leaving too! I paused and took a few steps. She did the same. I took a few more. So did she!

Eventually, she gave up but I would quite liked to have fitted her in the van to take home.
