Gweledigaeth a dyfalbarhad ~ Vision and perseverance
“I wanted to show that exploitation need not necessarily mean spoliation, that it was even possible to enhance the beauty of a site by building appropriately, to demonstrate in short that so far as seaside resorts were concerned, at any rate, good architectural manners were also good business”
― Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, (Plas Brondanw, Susan Williams-Ellis Foundation)

Roedd dydd Iau yn ddiwrnod hyfryd, y tro yma mewn lle hudolus: Portmeirion. Cawson ni dair awr yno. Roedd y tywydd yn ogoneddus. Cerddon ni o gwmpas y pentref ac y fyny i'r coetir. Yna treulion ni amser ymlacio eistedd yn y sgwâr gyda hufen ia.
Roedd Portmeirion y weledigaeth o Syr Clough Williams-Ellis, a gwaith ei oes. Fel dwedais i, mae'n lle hudolus ac fel Bodnant, roeddwn i'n meddwl 'dylai pobman fod fel hyn'. Os dych chi'n mynd i adeiladu, rhaid i'ch gwaith wella ar y byd naturiol. Os roeddwn ni eisiau gallai pob ystâd tai yn dilyn y ffurf Portmeirion, gyda thai o gwmpas parc a lleoedd i barcio eich car y tu allan yr ardal. Pam ddim? Mae pobl yn gallu byw rhywle dawel, mae'r plant yn gallu tyfu rhywle diogel. Gallai unrhyw gyrchfan twristaidd bod model am ble rydyn ni'n byw. Os yw lle yn ddeniadol i ymweld ag ef, gallem gael rhywbeth tebyg iddo fel rhywle rydym yn byw ynddo.

Thursday was a beautiful day, this time in a magical place: Portmeirion. We had three hours there. The weather was glorious. We walked around the village and up into the woodland. Then we spent time relaxing sitting in the square with ice cream.
Portmeirion was the vision of Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, and his life's work. As I said, it's a magical place and like Bodnant, I thought 'everywhere should be like this'. If you are going to build, your work must improve upon the natural world. If we wanted each housing estate could follow the Portmeirion format, with houses around a park and places to park your car outside the area. Why not? People can live somewhere quiet, the children can grow somewhere safe. Any tourist destination could be a model for where we live. If a place is attractive to visit, we could have something like it, as somewhere we live.
