We've been blessed with some
wonderful sunshine for our
drive to Port Renfrew

We took our time over breakfast before leaving Victoria this morning. Then it was an easy route onto Highway 14 leading us to Port Renfrew.
We made a brief stop in Sooke on the way. The city has a spit out on the beach that always gets my attention. I wasn't up to walking today so I had to make my telephoto lens do the work for me. I got some views along the coast there. One can see out to the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The cow parsnips were enormous, standing over 6 feet high. Scotch broom has taken over the roadsides and banks and into the woods. That bright yellow cannot be missed.
It is about a two hour drive to Port Renfrew on paved road. (When my parents lived here at the end of WW2, there was no road, only a boat that came in every three weeks.) The road is hilly and winding with some spots that are marked for one lane where one must be courteous to other drivers. The forest is almost impenetrable. The west coast trail that was built along the ocean's edge was designed to save lives. Those in shipwrecks could not make their way onto the land because of the dense forest.
We're at the end of our May long weekend. I will do some sight seeing as the weather will allow me while here.
