Quite The Show

The last of the series of sea days for this cruise started today.  For the next three days we will be bobbing around in the Labrador Sea heading towards St. John's in Newfoundland, where we will be docking on the 21st.  One week and one day from now, we will be disembarking in Boston!

Yesterday evening as we were sitting out on the pool deck, getting ready to order dinner, we were advised that the Danish Navy had requested our ship's permission to conduct an emergency medical evacuation practice, using one of their rescue teams and helicopter.  It was quite a thrill to watch the whole scenario unfold -- first the loud arrival of whirring rotors, then the lowering of a medic onto the stern of our ship, then the descent of a stretcher, and the subsequent raising of the "victim" and then the medic.  This exercise was carried out twice, and I must say the Danish Navy was very professional!  As they flew away for the last time, they dipped the  nose towards us as if the chopper were bowing, and waved enthusiastically to an appreciative crowd of passengers as they flew off into the Polar evening!
