Anzac
A long hot day on the Anzac battlefields. I started at Anzac cove early this morning and worked my way up to the trenches at Lone Pine ridge and the Nek. The terrain around Shrapnel Valley and the Sphinx is incredible. It was hard going even though no one was trying to kill me. Wild flowers, butterflies and tortoises all around. Those who have followed my last few blips will know that my quest was to visit the grave of Private Thomas Cook of the Herefordshire Regiment. My blip today shows his headstone in the 7th Field Ambulance Cemetry not far from Suvla Bay where he landed just one day before he was killed in action. I cleaned the stone as best I could. Just one among tens of thousands of lives lost in this most beautiful of landscapes.
