Goosle Gosling: Trying To Fly!

More exciting and flashy splashy in large ("L").

This is the Goosle Gosling trying to become the Goosle Fledgling!

Wow, it was so thrilling to see the little Goosle trying to fly! It was flapping and splashing across the water, and after each attempt it'd dive completely under the water, only to emerge a few metres away looking wild and excited. I really struggled to choose my photograph: the light wasn't brilliant and I was driven from the common by drizzle that looked like it was about to become much worse (it did...). I chose this one because it shows how much water the gosling was shifting as it tried to get airborne. It'd move quickly across the surface, but never managed to clear it. With each attempt it got wetter and sat lower in the water, and eventually it had to get out on the island to dry off. Mr. and Mrs. accompanied it around (more or less, it was moving fairly quickly) and Mrs. also dived under the water which was fun.

I've put up the alternative shot of it diving under the water after a splashy take-off attempt, and I've also uploaded a picture of a black-headed gull scooping bread from the surface of the pond, leaving a rather cool tendril of water beneath the bread.

I'm still behind on my commenting, and I'm off again this weekend (to stay with a friend in Devon) so will get further behind and will have to backblip again. Eep, how will I catch up!? I'm starting full time at the NHM on Monday, so I'll just have to see how I get on; please forgive my sluggish blipping.
