Life's Little Moments

This time of year I don't see many female hummingbirds as they are busy tending to their nests.  Males of this species play no role other than in fertilizing the eggs - females construct the nest, brood eggs and feed nestlings with no help at all. No surprise that they lose a significant amount of the already tiny body weight during this process.  This female is already looking a little ragged with wear showing on her belly.  She had a nice long drink at the feeder this morning while I watched, snapping off pictures when she pulled back.  Lovely little creatures.

Thanks so much for the very kind words and encouragement yesterday.  I made the choice a few years ago to be open about my struggles with depression.  I figure that maybe someone will find comfort in knowing that they are not struggling alone, as I felt I was for so many years.  There is far less stigma to depression and therapy as there was when I was a young adult, but there are still people out there who look at "us" and see weakness.  I look at it differently - if I wasn't strong, I would not still be walking this earth.  Even though it feels like I'm wearing anchors on my feet sometimes.  Looking forward to starting therapy even though I know it will be hard - not my first time doing this, probably won't be my last.

We kept Jax home from daycare today since I knew it would be raining all day and he would not want to go out to play.  I was right.  Tomorrow will be cool but dry so it will be a perfect day for him to have some play time.  I have my appointment with the Travel MD tomorrow to get whatever jabs and meds I need for the upcoming trip to Brazil, so having Jax well looked after at daycare will be nice.  The doctor's office is about an hour away and they said to plan for a 90 minute visit (yikes).  Hubs is leaving mid day tomorrow for the South Jersey race track for his first competitive race of the season - very exciting.

Meanwhile in the continuing saga of the Mouse Shuttle, I transported another mouse over to his/her new home this morning.  I really wish we could find out how they are getting in.

Started watching Lioness last night and found it very entertaining, if a little dark.  And the acting is good, which we both appreciate.
