Summer Retreat

Today we visited Trosa, a town on the coast in the Södermanland region of Sweden. It’s a very weathly neighbourhood and is especially popular with summer visitors who come to stay in the brightly coloured houses which line the river and coast. Being out of season it was quiet today and we were able to walk in peace along the cobbled streets and tiny walkways between the houses. There are a number of good cafes in the town but we’d made a packed lunch so found a bench with a view across the town to eat our sandwiches and have a hot drink of tea. The weather has been a little warmer and brighter today and this evening we’ve been enjoying blue skies and sunshine back at our holiday house. The lake comes alive with colour when the light is bright - it’s such a transformation from the greyness.

This evening we’ve again seen the owl who flew around the house and garden and then off to nearby woodland. It appears to be using one of the large Scots pine trees as a perch. We’re not sure what type of owl it is, it’s large and brown and doesn’t sound like a tawny owl. A first for me today was to see a large of flock of Whooper swans (feeding on crops in a field) as we drove to Trosa.

Wishing you all a good weekend.
