Pale...
As in Pale Green Assassin Bug (Zelus luridus). I found him (her?) yesterday hanging out on a milkweed plant and was surprised to find him still there this morning. I think the cool temps have slowed all the insects down right now. We are about 15 degrees cooler than normal so no wonder they are moving slowly.
Assassin Bugs, as their name would suggest, are efficient little killers. They are ambush predators, meaning that they simply wait patiently for prey to come within striking distance. Once they are able to grab the prey insect with their front legs, they quickly inject it with a liquefying substance making it into bug slurpee. I don't often find this species in the yard, so it was fun to see him today.
I am not feeling any real effects from the jabs yesterday (other than a mild headache) so arranged to have lunch with bestie Ellen. Hadn't seen her since just before the holidays so it was really nice to catch up.
Hubs had his qualifying session first thing this morning and then his first race at about 11:30. The organization who puts on the races televised it live on YouTube so I was able to watch the race, which was fun. Their announcers did a great job covering the race and it was almost like being there (except lacking the godawful noise!)
Jax, Charlie and I have a quiet evening planned which will involve some cuddle time on the sofa I'm sure.
xoxo
