The Village Fete
The rain largely stayed off for the Layer Marney Village Fete at the tower. To be honest, there wasn’t very much there if you didn’t have young children who wanted to play the traditional games that were set out on the lawn. We had gone round all the stalls (second hand books, plants, cakes, jam etc) and popped into the old church in about 35 minutes. We were just wondering what to do next when my mobile rang, and I dropped it trying to get it out of my bag, chipping a corner of it. It was Christine, who had arrived with her husband David. We joined them in the cafe where they were having a coffee, and then went out to watch the traditional dancing (pictured). After that we sat in Alison’s car and ate our picnic, and decided to go to the Poplar garden centre at Marks Tey to look at the summerhouses there. Of course we had to have a cuppa and a cake there, though the carrot muffin - delicious as it was - was very rich and filling. I didn’t see any summerhouses that floated my boat, so we went on to another place on the same road to look at what they had to offer. This was slightly more interesting, though I got the impression that they only supplied them flat-packed whereas I need a company which will handle the whole project from start to finish.
So all in all a slightly underwhelming day, but at least we made the effort.
