Tiny dragons of the water

Our pond is teeming with newts and I struggled to clear it  of blanket weed because  I kept catching newts. At first I was squeamish about picking them up and throwing them back into the pond.
 
If any Blipper knows of a cure or blanket weed  do share it. I am reluctant to use chemicals.
