Don’t tell Titus…

A very warm morning, muggy as there was cloud as well as sun but we decided we would walk along the canal - Leeds Liverpool - to Saltaire. A nice walk we often do but today there was something extra to see. The inflated red ball that has been touring the city this week as a movable art installation and part of Bradford 25 (City of Culture 2025.)
It originated in Missouri in 2001 and has been touring cities around the world ever since. Now known as the ‘world longest street art work’ it was in Ilkley earlier this week ( Mambo blipped it) and has been at Cliffe Castle in Keighley and was in Haworth yesterday amongst other places.

Here you can see a statue of Sir Titus Salt looking towards the bandstand, where our community choir will be singing next Sunday weather permitting, and then beyond is The Big Red Ball wedged into the entrance of a seating shelter.

Sir Titus created this world heritage village for workers at his Alpaca cloth mill. He was quite strict, there were no pubs, so I’m not sure he’d have been amused by seeing this.

Below him is the Half Moon cafe - see extra - we knew it would be busy as it is Park Run on a Saturday morning but when Chris got our coffees, whilst I took photos, he found blippers Corinthian column and Yorkshirebred with a table so we joined them. This is Roberts Park named after Sir James Roberts who bought the mill from the Salt family.

We walked back along the river - Aire -, one reason why this makes such a nice walk. On the canal we saw some ducklings, my first since Tebay services nearly a month ago and in the river there was a heron looking for his lunch - extra

There’s been a few spots of rain this afternoon but I’ve got a wash out and I’ve done a bit more garden tidying removing yet more bluebells and forget me nots as well as daffodil leaves and stems - another bag full!
A nice Saturday
