Living my dream

Misleading

This shot cannot show the bitterly cold southerly wind and the sleet hitting my back as I took it. It does show a large snow-laden cloud hitting the coastline in the distance.

It was one of those days of bright sunshine, huge clouds, squally winds, rain, sleet, hail and snow.

We had a trip to town for to visit the vet. Sigh.

Beanio has developed delaminating issues on one of her nails. Again. Sigh.

Whilst it is a wee bit raw, it isn't impeding her at all, and only seems to hurt very occasionally when she catches the end of the nail on her blanket. Walks and chasing hares goes on as usual.

Kelli Vet and I discussed how to best manage this nail, and agreed on minimum intervention (for now at least). More generally we are agreed that her nail issues are most likely happening because she is on a low fat (oil) diet as a result of having pancreatitis a couple of years ago. One way to help her is to increase her gut biome, which is something that commercial dog food isn't especially good for.

So from now on she will be getting a twice weekly blend of raw fruit and veg, with added low fat yoghurt, egg white, honey and marmite. Before the pancreatitis I fed her this mixture twice a week to supplement her raw meat diet and daily Bonio type biscuit treats.

Hopefully this will reduce the frequency of her nail problems.

To my great surprise Kelli Vet refused payment for our 20 minute discussion. No treatment was needed, so she told me to run away before she changed her mind!

I ran. Bean at my side. As always.
