Calm before the long day begins
A moment of calm before marching on to make a serious start on my list of things to be sorted. Because of the kind of qualifications many of our students do, we can be involved in external exams for longer than the standard GCSE/A-Level season. So, whilst our departmental colleagues with the GCSE students are almost done for this exam season, (and will turn their thoughts to next year!) those of us with the Functional Skills students are still working on exam preparations.
Long conversations were also had with the piano students yesterday who are almost done with their GCSE/A Levels and how we are planning distance learning, with in-person lessons when they are both back during holidays, plus a switch to Performance Grades, rather than the traditional Practical Grade exams they've done thus far. I have insisted they still keep on with the appropriate level of scales requirements, and sight reading. The latter is something they both hate, but appreciate it's a good skill to have. The former they both quite enjoy and have been regularly pointing out scale/arpeggio passages in their current pieces.
Definitely will be having an early night, as I so often so on Thursdays.
