A sizzling weekend
for weather - may the paints stay
wet and shade handy!

I arrived yesterday afternoon in Cache Creek, about an hour's drive from home. I'm spending the weekend at the plein air event in nearby Ashcroft. I'm not feeling very energetic so I may spend more time with my camera than with my art materials, but it will be wonderful to have the company of painters.

I was up at 6 and zipped into Ashcroft for a wander with my camera. I got an overview of the town and its greeting sign from the top of hwy 97 C.

Near the river I found an osprey nest with two in the nest. This nest is atop a pole and looks as bedraggled as the others I've seen.

I found cactus on the rocky slopes just beginning to bloom. In short order the hillside with be decorated with yellow blossoms.

The red-roofed church hosts our activities together. Last evening we had a wine and cheese with registration. Tonight, we're promised a Greek dinner. The hall is open all day with refreshments available. This year it has air conditioning so it may be a favourite retreat.

I had a look at the old firehall and the bakery. It's easy to take photos when it's early morning and all are still closed.

I will head back to Ashcroft and see if I can find an interesting spot to sit in the shade. We'll need it today.
