I Know Who Sylvia Is

Its father has been delighting me daily with his fluting song since he arrived at the beginning of April. Try as I might I haven't been able to capture him.

Father blackcap has been singing loudly and continuously to establish and secure his territory. He will have built a simple cock nest to impress the female and when he has got her attention she will have built the final nest quite low in the understorey. The scientific name of this bird means woodland sprite.

I heard the tac-tac, bubbling and whistling of the fledglings this morning and was delighted to have been able to get some pics. I've added one of the birds having a scratch to extras. Fortunately they haven't learnt to skulk like their parents do yet.
