Bingley (and Bradford 25)

A good sing this morning of songs we are rehearsing for our 10 year concert in September. A bit of tweaking of the song list with possibly more to come. The aim is to be ready by the end of July when our choir leader and many others will be away on holiday.

The concert, as well as celebrating 10 years of the groups existence, is part of Bradford 25 City of Culture celebrations, the logo for which can be seen in this window mural. ( You might spot me too!) The window belongs to an insurance broker here in Bingley.

Every time I’ve passed this window in the car I’ve made a mental note to stop and photograph it. I asked Chris to do so today on our return from shopping after our singing session. (Of course he forget.)
As well as the logo it illustrates some of the highlights of our town. Right - the Five Rise Locks on the Leeds - Liverpool canal which celebrated 250 years two years ago. Centre is Bingley Arts Centre which is in the centre of town and has recently had a very colourful makeover,  and to the left is the famous Damart thermal clothing factory housed in one of the old mills from a previous industrial era. The River Aire also passes through the town making it part of Airedale.

Dry so far today, overcast in the main but feeling a bit warmer. More warmth and humidity to  come, we’re told, until we hit thunderstorms later in the week!

The window artist does a lot of work locally and you may have seen her work on Wendles56’s window at Christmas.
