Oh that bridge . . .

The Pont Jacques Chaban-Delmas is a wonder to behold.  It connects life on the historic left bank of the Garonne river in Bordeaux with the more modern city on the right bank, and it is an engineering feat.

The photo above is taken from the right bank as I approached it on the two bridges loop walk (7-8kms), using this bridge and the historic Pont de Pierre.

As I was just leaving the other side of this bridge, wondering about the purpose of the towers, a very loud announcement bellowed out.  'The bridge is about to operate.  Please leave the bridge'.
