The Golden Road
The weather was set fair (for the morning at least) so we decided to drive down Harris's Golden Road. The extreme bends of it tend to keep traffic to a minimum on this winding single track route through some of Harris’s rocky East Coast. Apparently it is widely assumed it got its name because of the construction cost - If it cost that much then it must be made of gold! – but like much island folklore here that is disputed. We stopped at Skoon gallery for a bite to eat and then a couple of other galleries en-route plus the Harris Tweed Weavers. We ended up in Leverburgh and watched the ferry depart for North Uist. We had a really tasty bite to eat in the Harris Brewery there - scallops for me which were delicious and cranachan for desert. Yum.
The weather defied the forecasters and as I type this it is still very warm and sunny.
