Look Out

A bit of a chores day today, as well as feeling tired after yesterday’s long day. Not a day for photography, thus the minimalist blip image.

I no longer watch the TV news - I find it just so depressing. I keep up through an online subscription to my favourite newspaper, which includes the physical editions at the weekend.

So when I can I get the Observer on a Sunday. It’s the world’s oldest Sunday newspaper. In the year it was first published the French Revolution was two years old, Louis XV and his Queen Marie Antoinette had failed in their plan to escape their captors, the Industrial Revolution was in its infancy in Britain, the United States of America was 15 years old and consisted of 13 states.

It has been through all sorts of ownerships in its 234 year history and as of late April 2025 is owned by Tortoise Media. Stylistically the change has been most noticeable on the front page, which now features one very striking image each week. A picture, as blippers will know, can convey a story often more effectively than words.
