A view from Jeanneb

Summer surprises!

The heatwave continues albeit with some hazy high cloud.
Got my ironing out of the way whilst it was a bit cooler then had a look around the garden.
I was delighted to see my first poppy, very small, starting to open its  flower and then I took another look at what I had initially thought were spent stems from snakes head fritillaries.
When we were at Bridgewater on Wednesday I spotted some Alliums that were smaller and panicle shaped. Grace has some in her garden and I remember thinking how nice they were and maybe I would get some.
I mentioned it to Chris and neither of us could remember whether I got some or nit or indeed where they were if I had got them. Well here they are! It really is a wonder I hadn’t pulled them out. I noticed at Bridgewater they were on very slender stems which is why I decided to look at these more closely. 4 of the 5 still have very tiny heads but as you can see this one is starting to open into a multi petalled flower. I’m delighted and surprised. How silly to forget I’d got and planted them.

I’ve walked up to the village for my hair appt. I passed a neighbour’s garden  whose poppies are also just opening. Lovely big crimson blooms. I admired them once and she gave me an envelope full of seeds but they didn't come up!
I resisted a photo of them but it will be good to see them as I pass by over the next week or so.
My first cut of sweet peas yesterday, think it might really be summer.
