I'm Not Going Up in That
We've done 14k to 18k steps today, depending on whose watch you look at.
After breakfast (OK but not quite fit for a king, as it was billed) we drove to the Gunwharf Quays outlet shops. I bought another shirt, that makes 5 in the last week or so. I am on a roll.
Whilst on the subject of watches there was a Samsung promotional bus there (the blue bus in the main image) so I took the opportunity to ask why my Galaxy watch was occasionally draining in less than a day, after the last update. They weren't much help really, just saying there would no doubt be another update soon as it sounded like a software rather than battery issue.
We had drinks in the Spinnaker Tower café (we both had milk shakes) and then considered going up the tower. We weren't that keen and it looked a bit expensive so we decided on a harbour tour instead. In the blip I could pretend mrsfb is wistfully looking up at the tower wondering what could have been, but she wasn't :-)
The tour was a good decision and much better value I think, though we were a bit worried when we saw the captain of the ship was a dog (first extra). The vessel was called the Ali Cat too.
After that and more drinks (non alcoholic fruit cocktails) we drove on to Southsea. A bit of a trip down memory lane for me as we had lots of holidays there when I was a lad. It was all a bit of a mess though. The Clarence Pier funfair was closed and there was a huge amount of works being done improving the sea defences. We did manage a round of Treasure Island Adventure Golf (I won) and then walked along to Old Portsmouth and had fish and chips in the Spice Island pub. We had intended to get some from a takeaway but unbelievably it rained on our walk there (for about 5 minutes) so we went inside.
We then walked back towards South Parade Pier, but it was pretty messy because of the sea defences project. There were a lot of stands and kiosks setting up on Southsea Common. I asked the guy setting up the Red Arrows stuff (second extra) and he said it was Armed Forces Day tomorrow, and it would be manic. I asked if the Red Arrows would be there and he said no, they were in Ireland.
Pretty tired by now we made our way back to the hotel, but via Fratton Park, just to pay our respects!
