Waulkmill bay

A beautiful sunny day, warm and bright. In the morning I went to the shops to get some picnic items, and then sat down at the harbour side on a bench for a while, watching the comings and goings. We drove across to Waulkmill Bay - fairly easy steps and pathway down to the beach. Low tide, so a long walk from the waves to the back of the beach to eat our picnic. The collage above shows aspects of the beautiful beach. Then we explored the peat bog area behind the beach the first extra shows some of the plants we saw - hawkbit, meadowsweet,  bog bean and thrift.
In the evening, we had a wonderful thali style meal. My second extra shows plants growing in my friend’s polycrub, a kind of super strength polytunnel made with recycled materials from the fish farming industry. We collected fresh leaves, herbs and peas. Then we watched our regular Friday night film, though I’m usually in Bristol, about 700 miles away. Saw an Irish film, Four Mothers. Both funny and moving, about a gay man who devotes much of his life to caring for his mum, but gets 3 extras for a few days when his friends, without prior agreement, deliver their mums to his house to be cared for while they go off to a Pride festival in Spain. Has some interesting twists, and is most decidedly not patronising about older women. I walked back to my little place at about 11.15 and it was just dusk.
PS birds at the beach included curlew, plover, terns, fulmars, lapwing and a great skua  - a huge bird known here as a bonxie. But mostly oystercatchers.
