The accidental finding

I did some more clearing (sitting room) in the morning, then took the bus to Cheltenham and legged it up to a restaurant to meet D for a quick lunch before the matinee at the Everyman theatre. Weather warm, overcast, with occasional showers of fat raindrops.

We made it to the theatre early (D is very anxious about timing) and eventually got to our seats after fighting our way to the toilet and back through a sea of people with walkers, wheelchair and walking sticks. D has had a walker since last year and we hadn’t been to the theatre since he started using it. We had seats at the end of back row of the stalls and D was happy with them, even though he said he couldn’t hear properly, and I wished I’d been able to see more! Opera glasses next time.

The play was the new one, By Royal Appointment, about the three people who designed for, and dressed, the late Queen. The dialogue was sharp, and it was mostly dialogue. The period covered was from 1969 to 2022. Since this covered most of my life, I enjoyed the cultural and historical references to each individual year that they covered. Some were highbrow and some very lowbrow (Bucks Fizz won the Eurovision Song Contest for the UK in 1981).

Afterwards we had coffee/smoothies and I caught the last bus back. It was a chatty day as I’d talked at woman on the way there, and met an ex-client on the way back and sat next to her (she’s great!). I’m finding it hard to chat to D though, and wonder how I’m going to manage a whole five day holiday with him next month.
