Gently down the stream

More about grass

After yesterday's skipper hanging from its grass stalk I found on walking along the track this morning that the grass was being cut inbetween the reed beds (see extra).  And then, because the sun was shining just so I started getting interested in various grass seedheads - hence this shot.  What a wonderful structure and don't you just love the colours and patterning?  I know very little about grass, sad to say, so if you're going to ask me what kind this is I'm a bit stuck.  Very small (that head is something like 5mm long, not that I got out my tape measure).  A kind of fescue?  I do know grass 'flowers' are wind, not insect, pollinated - and (like the one above) are called 'florets' rather than flowers so that might disqualify them for WFW but I'm hoping this one can be snuck into the current challenge.

Many thanks to Apollo Fly and Nicoiseannie for hosting WFW25 during June (and giving me a mid summer break ;))  Have a great evening, all  xx
