On the move
It was predicted to be the hottest day of the year with temperatures in the high 30s so I decided that we would walk high. We set off early and climbed through the forest next to a cooling stream until we reached the refuge of.Marialles at 1,700 metres. At that altitude, the temperature was in the mid 20s and there was a refreshing breeze. The temperature rose as we descended but that was bearable as we were going downhill. In all we walked 11 kilometres with 680 metres of ascent. At one point we had to wait ten minutes while a herd of cows passed by. At first I thought it was the transhumance but there were no accompanying farmers so I think the herd had made its own mind up to find new pasture.
