One whole day in Copenhagen
Not enough .
Woke at 6:30 - slept like a log it was very peaceful. The hotel is in a residential area called Island Brygge, lots of lovely apartments round about .
Walked and walked today covering most of the outdoor sights in the way to the Little Mermaid where we had a picnic on a bench in that area.
Nyhavn was lovely, where this pic was taken. A young South Korean girl asked us to take her photo and then Asked if she could take ours. It’s the only one we have that isn’t a selfie. Her English was impeccable.
We sat in the sunshine at the riverside for a while and I saw the boats called Hey Captain docked there taking people round the canals. Went up and asked if any space and there was one leaving right then so the guy took us over. There was 10 of us in the boat and Marcus the Captain, or driver. It was good fun.
We all said our names and a bit about ourselves as we headed on our way. There was us, a married couple from Bavaria, and then three couples that were all friends from the States. All around our age. One guy was a headteacher now the Mayor of the town. A surgeon who is retiring next month, a Captain of the Navy, submarine division . The wives, two were nurses and one was a schoolteacher. We looked up the Mayor later as his name was Rick West and he is R. Kinda figured as they are from South Carolina. One of the couple from Bavaria, Christian, could not speak English so his husband Roland, spoke for him. Roland went bankrupt in 2000, he owned a tech company and blamed it on a company in Austria but then worked hard and set up another business.
The boat trip was fabulous saw and learned so much from Marcus. We passed some amazing waterside houses too and also the hippy area, free governing Christianna which I would have loved to visit but no time…..
After this it was time to look for the only thing we really buy when in trips, fridge magnets! First though we had a coffee and shared a chicken salad which was rammed with tasty stuff. Sat in the cafe watching the crazy speeds of the bikes, not quite as bad as Amsterdam but almost…
We were going to go to Tivoli next but we asked ourselves if we really could manage walking round it as we were almost at 24k steps and with my foot still a bit achy from the fall on the boat we decided no, we would come back to Copenhagen and spend more time. Although it’s very expensive, even more so than Stockholm .
It’s a beautiful city, really enjoyed exploring what we did but it was time to call it a day.
Back to the hotel and had a cuppa and a biscuit. Felt exhausted!
We sat downstairs in the lounge which was quite buzzing.
Sleeping by 10, home tomorrow.
A few other pics in extra
