Out paddling

Monday
It had been my intention to get an early start today, because of the heat, but also because of the heat, I hadn’t slept well, so hadnt felt like getting up. After breakfast, we put in our kayaks at the little beach area we had found last night, which is located at the end of a low bridge or causeway across the lake. To the west of this is a low wake area, so you don’t get any fast speed boats or jet skis zooming past you. Whilst it felt really hot as we were unloading the kayaks and getting them in the water, once we were out on the water it felt noticeably cooler. We explored several of the narrow inlets, and as we explored this one inlet we came across these two tunnels, one under the railway line, and one under the road, which was quite interesting. I was disappointed however, that we didn’t see more bird life, other than the usual great blue herons, a few swallows and the belted kingfisher. We stayed out for a couple of hours, by which time it was feeling really hot, so having loaded the kayaks back on the car, we returned to the cool of the camper with the AC on. We had a drink and a snack, then late afternoon we headed to the main beach on the other side of the lake. The beach is only fairly narrow, but is backed by a large area of grass with trees, so we put our chairs in the shade of the trees, and sat and read and people watched and boat watched for a while before going back to the camper.
