Redstarts Return

For the past three years we have had Redstarts nesting somewhere around our house. This year they have done something really daft. They are under the carport and there are 5 fat babies (see extra with Mum or Dad) I’m sure that one at least will fall out before they have fledged and Nexy has already located the nest, now she waits! I know she can’t help her cat nature but I am going to have to keep an eye on her when she’s around.

Today the pond has been completely cleaned and refilled. It was easy this year as it had almost dried up. The green gunk that was left made a delicious fertilizer for the vegetable plot. Fortunately we had a complete barrel of rainwater so I didn’t need to use tap water to fill it. No doubt it will dry up again because there is no rain forecast for a long time!

Thank you so much for your funny comments about yesterday’s bouquetin! I hope you are having a reasonably cool weekend. Here it was 35° today! I slept most of the afternoon. I needed it.
