Village Open Garden
Quite an exciting end to the holiday last night. I had 35 minutes gap between trains so thought that would be easy. However the first train was running 35 minutes late for most of the journey. I asked the train manager about the chances of me catching the next train and he said "no problem" however he didn't look over confident and I sat with my head in my hands....Then they announced that we wouldn't be stopping at any more stations until Exeter and everyone wishing to alight at those stations should get off at Newton Abbot and then catch a local train to their station as they run more frequently. So every few minutes the Exeter arrival time decreased by each station we passed without stopping. Eventually it looked like I'd have 3 minutes spare to get off the train and with my luggage and Ziggy, go up the lift across the bridge and down the lift. They then announced that those persons wishing to catch "my " train (just me!) would be ok if we hurried as the next train would wait for one minute. Didn't we run? Someone realised what was happening and ran in front of me to clear the way and press the lift buttons. What a hero. I got to the platform and was about to jump in the train but the guard said it wasn't mine, mine was in front! So another sprint and the man had his paddle raised just about to bring it down and I'm running and shouting "wait!". They did and we got on, with help for the luggage. A friend was waiting at our home station and drove us home, arriving about 10:45pm.
Today was quieter. I visited my husband who smiled a little at me when I arrived.
This afternoon was a friend's open garden for the NGS. Half the village was helping with parking, teas music, plant sales, raffle, etc. A lovely afternoon.
