Felt swimming
As is the tradition after a book group night, LauraMuir, Winsford and I lingered over breakfast with Mr hazelh. Then we parted ways: LauraMuir to the railway station; Winsford for her bus north; and Mr hazelh to the sitting room to practise his Finnish.
Meanwhile I shuffled along the kitchen table to plan our meals for the month, and to write our ‘big’ shopping list for a trip by car to the supermarkets this afternoon. We have a very busy period coming up with at least seven guests visiting us between now and the end of the month so I really need to keep a close eye on catering.
Overall, however, my day has been dominated (again) by Mummy hazelh admin. Much of time I have been writing emails and making phone calls to care homes. Some of the work this morning was centred on a 1.5 page document produced by Mummy hazelh’s current care home. The first version contained five clanging (and possibly defamatory) errors, and greatly upset me.
Late this afternoon, the manager of the home that we hoped would accommodate Mummy hazelh rang to say that they cannot not take her after all. Although I was disappointed at this outcome, it didn’t surprise me. Mummy hazelh’s care needs are now so much greater than they were even just a few weeks ago. I was also very grateful that this manager spoke to me at length about the various options open to us, made several recommendations, and invited me to call her again in the future if I ever need any further advice. This is in stark contrast with the attitude of the manager of Mummy hazelh’s current care home, who imparted no information whatsoever to me on the day that she said that we would need to find a new place for my mother.
I’m taking it easy at the moment in terms of exercise following my recent illness. I have therefore cancelled my exercise classes tomorrow morning and instead will be going out for coffee with Ali C, Mary, Marian, and Jennifer.
My blip is the felted scene that Winsford made for me as a thank you for staying at our flat. It's based on a picture that I passed on to her a couple of weeks ago. I like to think that it depicts the two of us swimming to the first pine in Loch Faskally.
Exercise today: none.
