Simply the Best is their name…….

…… and they live up to it each year!
A cooler start to the day, and a much better night for sleeping. Funny how 17C at the moment now feels rather chilly! High today of 20C.
I had a much better night and my back now gradually improving, thankfully.
Lovely wafts of fresh air coming in by the slightly open patio door, as I have my morning coffee and breakfast.
Already the berries of the Rowan tree in next door’s garden, some of which overhangs ours, are bright orange, hints of autumn already.
The birds don’t seem quite as busy at the feeders yet since we returned from Cornwall. I need to replenish the fatballs. They have plenty of sunflower hearts to go at in the meantime.
We will have a short walk today, emphasis on the short! Yesterday there was a great kerfuffle on our summerhouse roof and the adjoining Liquid Amber tree. I eventually counted 5 squirrels, all hell bent on chasing each other up and down the tree, through the branches and foliage, then jumping onto the summerhouse roof and on to the fence of the property at the end of our garden.
They were angry and cross, biting and squealing.
I googled squirrel behaviour and it really looked as if it was a territorial dispute. I guess youngsters having left their drey have to find somewhere else.
Males also assert their territorial rights. (an age old story!) They disappeared somewhere else eventually.
There must have been some rain during the night as our extension roof was wet this morning..
I must admit I’m enjoying myself just sitting here on the settee looking out at the garden through the patio window, with dad’s old clock ticking away on the wall.
Time to stir myself methinks….
