The First

When I watered the patio plants this morning, I was delighted to see that the very first flower of our pygmy water lily has opened in the mini pond. 

It was the hottest day of this week, with over 38°C in our garden, and almost 40°C in the city centre. I managed to keep the house relatively cool, by firmly closing all shutters where the sun hit, and hanging up damp laundry to cool the air through evaporation. 

But it’s still unpleasantly warm everywhere, and we are eagerly awaiting the forecast weather front with rain, thunder and cooler air. It probably won‘t reach us before tomorrow, so another tropical night awaits.
