Nineties and noughties
I woke up in the spare room of M&J and enjoyed this densely packed set of shelves. It was full of DVDs and CDs and out of shot some guidebooks. I lay in bed in the early morning thinking how almost of this had dropped out of general use in such a short time. I live almost entirely digitally; music, streaming, kindles and apps give me my information and much of my culture. I treasure my iPad thinking it as a portal to my own secret state. However in contrast I do also value theatre, art galleries and craft pottery.
Came down to breakfast and said all of this whilst eating home made gooseberry jam from their allotment. Agreed that not all modern life was rubbish as there were definitely gains and losses. Watched Miriam doing her eye make up, subtle, effective and surprisingly complex. Mesmerising.
Train to London for the most scorchio day so far. There was hardly anyone in the office and on a group zoom most looked smug and cool in their home offices. News came through that Matt, our script editors baby was born after a long labour. Relief
I had lunch with a writer and then decided to head for home. Picked up the mini that had been in for an MoT. V and Emma were still editing and I went to local drinks whilst he fired up the barbecue again and we had griddled poussin and refried beans. Delicious. Hot night ahead…
