Neges o 1885

Neges o 1885 ~ A message from 1885

“There have been times / when, after long on my knees / in a cold chancel, a stone has rolled / from my mind, & I have looked / in & seen the old questions lie / folded & in a place / by themselves, like the piled / graveclothes of love's risen body.”
― R. S. Thomas

Rydyn ni'n bron yn barod gyda'n cyflwyniad, felly es i i'r pentref heddiw. Mewn cymhariaeth i'r gwaith o'r ychydig ddyddiau diwethaf, roedd yn teimlo fel gwyliau.

Eisteddais i, ger y bedd Ann Phillips a fu farw yn 1885. Mae'r garreg fedd yn dweud 'let us run with patience the race that is set before us'. Mae hynny'n swnio fel cyngor da.

Mae'r ymadrodd yn dod o Hebreaid 12:1 "Gan hyny, bydded i ninnau hefyd, a ni a chennym yn ein hamgylchu gwmmwl mor fawr o dystion, gan roi ymaith bob pwys a phechod y sydd mor barod yn ein hamgylchynu, redeg trwy amynedd y rhedfa a osodwyd o’n blaen..." (Cyfieithiad Briscoe 1894) (https://beblia.com/Bible?Language=Welsh1894&Book=58&Chapter=12)

Mae bob amser yn dda treulio peth amser tawel - mewn mynwent neu unrhyw le arall.

We are almost ready with our presentation, so I went to the village today. Compared to the work of the last few days, it felt like a holiday.

I sat near the grave of Ann Phillips who died in 1885. The gravestone says 'let us run with patience the race that is set before us'. That sounds like good advice.

The phrase comes from Hebrews 12:1 "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us…" (KJV 1611)  (https://biblehub.com/hebrews/12-1.htm)

It's always good to spend some quiet time - in a cemetery or anywhere else.
