Letters

A trip down to Chester today to see mum in the care home, and pick up any post that might have been delivered to my sister’s - where she used to live. I expected a bit from before I took over her affairs, but was disappointed to see that most of the post was from a company who assured me a) there wouldn’t be any more letters, b) all correspondence would be by email to me and c) in the unlikely event that a paper form was required, it would be sent to my address.
Patently, none of this has happened, so I wonder what else of the things they promised to do has not been undertaken. Follow up email on Monday methinks!
The one thing I can safely dispose of is the Driving Licence renewal letter. Frightening to think that mum technically still has a valid driving licence for another week or so. I don’t think it’s going to be an issue though!
The more sobering thought is that three years ago (the last time her licence was renewed) mum was still driving - and living reasonably independently. Now she is non responsive and requires 24 hour care. A little reminder of how precious good health is and how fragile is our grasp on it.
We will be calling in again next week for her 91st birthday. I think it is important we mark the occasion even if she cannot join in the celebrations.
